8 MW windfarm projet in Plouguin, West Brittany
MONTREAL, Quebec, May 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Boralex Inc. (TSX- BLX.A) (« Boralex »), through its French subsidiary, announces the construction and commissioning of a new wind farm of 8 MW in capacity, located in Bretagne (Plouguin) (the « Project ») and the construction of new sites, for a total of 60 MW in capacity, that will be built over the next two (2) years. The projects are subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions precedent, including the financing.
The Project, which will be wholly-owned by Boralex, will require an investment of more than C$15.7 million (9.8 M euros). All energy generated will be sold to Electricite de France under 15-year contracts. The land leases are for an initial period of 40 years, renewable for an additional 40 years at Boralex?s discretion.
The project will include 4 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW. Construction of the Plouguin site began in 2004 and commercial commissioning is anticipated for next October.
Once completed, these projects will bring Boralex?s total wind power in France to a capacity of 150 MW, making Boralex the largest wind power producers in France.
Boralex focuses on four types of power generation: hydroelectric power, thermal or cogeneration power from natural gas or wood residue, and wind power. These are all fields where Boralex has developed proven expertise centered on renewable energy. Boralex employs more than 250 workers and owns 17 power stations in Quebec, the United States and France, with an installed capacity of close to 252.0 MW, as well as an urban wood processing and recycling centre in Montreal. In addition, Boralex holds a 23% interest in Boralex Power Income Fund which owns 10 power stations in Quebec and the United States with an installed capacity of close to 190.0 MW.
